Franjo Tuđman (born 14th of May, 1922 in Veliko Trgovišče, died 10th December 1999 in Zagreb)
As the President of the Republic, he regularly came to the matches in Maximir. Although he didn’t approve of the name “Dinamo”, considering it the remnants of the social-communistic era, he helped the club in many ways. While he was the President of Croatia, the club changed the name twice – first to “Hašk Građanski” and then to “Croatia”. Together with Zlatko Canjuga, the club’s chairman, he started the restoration of the club, and the first step was the creation of European club which would play an important role in the European field of sports. Croatia, as a club, almost made all his dreams come true. Another big project of his was the building of the new stadium but unfortunately the death stopped him in the realization of the idea. |
