Today’s Dinamo is continuing the tradition of the celebrated teams Hašk, Građanski, Dinamo and Croatia. The oldest was Hašk founded on 6th November, 1903., as a student’s club, while Građanski was founded as the club of all social classes on 26th April, 1911. Both clubs were banned overnight by the communist régime after the war, and the new club was formed according to the model of the similar communist clubs from Eastern Europe. The club was named Dinamo on 9th June, 1945.

The newly formed club was immediately joined by the best players of Građanski: Urch, Woelfl, Kokotović, Lešnik, Cimermančić, Pleše, Antolković, Belošević, Jazbinšek, Reiss as well as its Juniors: Bučar, Ferković, Martinec, Kukec, Gereš, Čonč i Režek.
Martin Bukovi, the coach of Građanski, went on with the training of Dinamo as well as Franjo Žlof, the masseur. The players of Hašk who continued their careers in Dinamo were: Ratko Kacian, Željko Čajkovski, Svetozar Peričić and Drago Lojen. Only Čajkovski remained in Maximir for a long time – almost for eleven years. The newly formed club took over the blue colour from Građanski. The coat of arms of Dinamo was also very similar to Građanski’s.

Croatia, as a club, united the continuity and the tradition of the former Croatian clubs: Hašk, whose players established modern football in the capital of Croatia, Građanski as the most successful and the most popular pre-war club, and Dinamo as the symbol of Croatian Nation in the dark era of communism.
Dinamo’s fans marked the beginning of the resistance to
Serbia’s attempt of Croatian occupation on
13th May, 1990. Crvena Zvezda’s fans started with disorders without being previously provoked and shortly after that
Croatia entered defensive war which ended by its sovereignty.

Dinamo officially returned to Maksimir and as always being supported by BBBs on
14th February, 2000.
